Quick Start Guide
ARMS Software
1.
Installation
ARMS must be installed on every computer that you wish to use the software on.
If you are installing it on more than 5 computers, please make sure you have
purchased a version with enough licenses to cover the number of computers you
will install it on (see license agreement at:
http://www.arms-sw.com/license_agreement.htm).
For the purposes of this guide, we will assume that your CD ROM drive is drive
D. To install ARMS; start by inserting the CD into your CD drive. The
installation program will start automatically unless this feature has been
disabled on your computer. If it does not startup automatically, open MY
Computer and navigate to D:\ARMSv2_Setup.msi and double click on the setup
file. If you are using VISTA, you will need to install it using an
Administrator login. Please take time to read the README file that is shown
during the installation.
2.
Database
Files
The database files are installed to your
application data folder in a database subfolder. In Windows XP, this is
typically in C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application
Data\RC Computers\ARMS\Database. In
Windows VISTA this is typically in C:\Users\
UserName \AppData\Roaming\RC
Computers\ARMS\Database. UserName is the name you use to logon to the
computer (i.e. If I login using Ron as my login name, the UserName
= Ron). If you are going to use a SQL database, the script to create the
database is in this folder. The Access database is also in this folder. To make it easier, all the database files are
also located on the CD in the D:\Database folder. You can use the files from
the CD if you have one. If you downloaded the setup file, then refer to the above
to find your database files.
NOTE: If you are using an Access database and more
than one (1) user will be accessing the database, you MUST move the database to
a location that ALL users from all computers have read/write permissions. We
recommend putting the file on a shared folder on a server, but it can be on a
shared folder on a user’s computer if that works best for you. If you are
uncertain how to do this, please contact your IT specialist or network
administrator.
If you are using a SQL database, please have your database administrator
install the database and give you the connection information (please see the
README.RTF file).
3.
Running
ARMS
The first time you start ARMS you will need to tell it
where the database is. Select SQL Server or Access as your database and click
on Save-Close. For an Access database, you will need to select the location of
the database you moved as per the instructions above. For a SQL server
database, please refer to the connection information given you by the database
administrator. Please see the README.RTF file for more information. It is
located on the CD and in your installation directory. Once you have correctly
setup your connection information, ARMS remembers it and doesn’t ask for it
again.
4.
Security
ARMS has the ability to setup security for different permission levels. By
default, security is turned off and you do not need to login to ARMS (all users
have admin access). If you want to use login security, please make sure to
setup an ADMIN user (using the security menu in ARMS) before enabling security,
otherwise you will not be able to make any changes that require an ADMIN user.
You make changes to security using the Admin: Security menu.
